Vocal group Chapter 6 to open Galaxy of Stars
8/19/2008 - High-energy a cappella group Chapter 6 will launch the 2008-09 Galaxy of Stars Series at Western Carolina University with its diverse repertoire of signature pieces and freshly arranged, comedy-infused jazz, pop, gospel and rock.
Chapter 6, the seven-member a cappella group from around Chicago, will launch the 2008-09 Galaxy of Stars Series with a Sept. 6 performance.
Chapter 6, at right, will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, in the performance hall of Western’s Fine and Performing Arts Center.

The seven-member group, from the Chicago area, began as a campus a cappella ensemble at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., earning the title of International Champions of Collegiate A Cappella in 2001. Chapter 6 also has won the Grand Champion title at the 2004 National Harmony Sweepstakes, and was named a finalist for the 2007 Campus Activities Magazine Readers Choice Award for Best Small Venue Performer.

While appealing to a mainstream audience, Chapter 6, which has released four albums and a live DVD, shares a message of God’s hope and love. The group maintains an extensive touring schedule and is currently performing with symphony orchestras in major cities.

The group’s present seven-member lineup is Chuck Bosworth, Mark Grizzard, Jarrett Johnson, John Musick, Nathan Pufall, A.D. Stonecipher and Brock Thornborough, a temporarily replacement for Chapter 6 member Luke Menard, who is undergoing chemotherapy. Menard appeared on season seven of “American Idol” and was diagnosed with cancer shortly after he was eliminated from the top 16 contestants.

The Downtown Sylva Association is sponsoring the Sept. 6 event. Individual ticket prices are $25 for adults; $20 for senior citizens (60 years and older); $20 for WCU faculty and staff; $5 for students; and $15 per person for groups of 15 or more. To purchase tickets, visit the FAPAC box office, call the box office at (828) 227-2479 for Visa and MasterCard orders, or go online to http://www.ticketreturn.com/.
