8/22/2008 - Tickets for an October concert at Western Carolina University’s Ramsey Regional Activity Center by Corey Smith, an independent musician whose popularity has soared with an online audience, go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2.Tickets go on sale Sept. 2 for a show by musician Corey Smith at the Ramsey Regional Activity Center at Western Carolina University.

Smith will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2. Ticket prices are $20 for floor seats and $15 for arena seats. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Smith, right, grew up near Athens, Ga., and spent his weekends soaking in the local music scene. His influences include everyone from George Jones to Tupac Shakur, with a resulting musical style that melds insightful lyrics with country, rock and blues.

Smith graduated from the University of Georgia and became a social studies teacher at North Gwinnett High School. He couldn’t shake his musical ambitions, however, and soon found himself performing regularly in regional bars and clubs.

Since 2003, Smith has released four albums and a live EP. His presence on YouTube and MySpace has led to his discovery by thousands of new fans.
