Qualified Teachers are in DemandBecause of the crisis in science education in the United States, qualified teachers are in demand across the country. All states and most school districts have excellent incentives to invite and support you to be part of the solution.
Curriculum & Certification
Western's comprehensive science education degree (B.S.Ed.) allows you to concentrate in one discipline—biology, earth sciences, chemistry, or physics—and gain in-depth content knowledge while acquiring a good working knowledge of the others. Once graduated, you'll be certified to teach your chosen discipline in North Carolina and your teaching license will be reciprocal in more than 40 other states.
Your Learning Environment
Our faculty in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Education and Allied Professions are committed to your success and they're passionate about teaching and learning. You'll use state-of-the-art equipment and facilities in our new science labs and, once admitted to the College of Education in your sophomore year, you'll be part of a national award-winning teacher education program.
Abundant Career Opportunities
A wealth of career opportunities awaits you. Our graduates enjoy high success rates in obtaining teaching jobs in the western region of North Carolina as well as across the state and the nation. Many of them have also gone on to pursue a master's degree in science or education.
