Art and Design to host open house Oct. 21
10/10/2008 - Community members are invited to visit artists’ studios, preview upcoming exhibits, view demonstrations and create their own works of art during a free, informal open house hosted by the School of Art and Design, part of the College of Fine and Performing Arts at Western Carolina University.
The fall open house is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, throughout WCU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Throughout the day, Master of Fine Arts students’ studios will be open to visitors. Visiting artists Jeff Oestreich, a function-minded ceramicist from Minnesota, and William Donnan, a North Carolina sculptor who works primarily in cast metal and cement, will give demonstrations, and art education students will host hands-on activities in Room 150 of FAPAC.
Also during the open house, the Fine Art Museum will preview a selection of works from the personal collection Perry Kelly, art professor emeritus, who recently gave the museum a number of his collected works in a variety of media by major regional, national and international artists.
