In the newly restructured position, Monteith (pictured) has oversight of health services, counseling and psychological services, intramural and sports clubs, wellness programs and the Campus Recreation Center. Many of the responsibilities previously were held by Bill Haggard, who left a job as associate vice chancellor of student affairs at WCU to become vice chancellor for student affairs at University of North Carolina at Asheville.
Monteith brings more than 25 years of experience in health, wellness and fitness education to the job, said Sam Miller, WCU vice chancellor for student affairs. She earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and health education from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 1993, and a master’s degree in education and exercise science from the University of Nebraska in 1995.
She worked at the University of Nebraska, the University of Virginia and Haywood Regional Health and Fitness Center before coming to Western Carolina in 2005 as director of the fitness center.
