Nationally known financial analyst Gina Martin of Wachovia Bank will present the keynote address during a March 20-22 “Banking Kickoff” planned at Western Carolina University to celebrate a new banking concentration in WCU’s College of Business.
Martin will speak on the topic “U.S. Economic Outlook: Hard Landing, Soft Landing or No Landing?” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in the theater of A.K. Hinds University Center. Her address is open to the public.
At Wachovia Bank, Martin’s responsibilities include providing commentary and research on financial markets and the national economy. Consumer trends are her primary research focus.
Martin has appeared as a guest on CNBC, the “ABC Evening News” and “Good Morning America,” and her work has been featured by the Associated Press, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with concentrations in finance and marketing at the University of Florida, and she holds designation as a chartered financial analyst.
Other events scheduled at WCU during the “Banking Kickoff” include a banking career fair and presentations for WCU students by Everett Stiles, chief executive officer and founder of OldTowne Bank, and Paul Stock, vice president and counsel for the North Carolina Bankers Association.
Students who decide to major in finance, with a concentration in banking, will be prepared to work at the corporate or retail level of a financial institution, said Grace Allen, WCU associate professor of finance. Possible careers in the banking field include credit analyst, branch manager, financial adviser, trust specialist, loan officer, commercial lending manager, operations officer, account executive and private banking representative, Allen said.
The banking concentration also is offered as a minor for WCU students. For more information about the banking concentration at WCU or other March 20-22 activities, contact Allen at (828) 227-3189.
