NEW YEAR'S DAY 2013 January 1, 2013 (Tuesday)
The holidays at Christmas 2012 are obtained by combining the Memorial Day (May 28) and Veterans' Day (November 12) holidays with the three holidays given for Christmas. The General Assembly grants three (3) paid days at Christmas during years in which Christmas Day falls on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
PLEASE NOTE: On December 31, 2012, employees in leave earing status have the option of using vacation or bonus leave, or leave without pay. FLSA eligible employees (those subject to overtme) may also use compensatory time off for these days. This will allow the University to close at the end of business on Friday, December 21, 2012, and remain closed until the opening of business on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
This schedule will enable the Universiy to lower building temperatures for the entire period and, thereby, achieve significant energy savings. Building temperatures, except in areas where research or other essential operations require exceptions, will be lowered to approximately 55 degrees during the period the University is closed. Requests for exceptions to this temperature level should be directed to Mr. Joe Walker, Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management, at 227-7441.
Permanent and probationary employees who are required to work on a designated University holiday will be paid straight time plus holiday premium pay equal to one-half of their regular straight-time hourly rate for the hours worked on these holidays. In addition, they will be given compensatory time off equal to the holiday hours worked. Hourly employees and those on temporary staff appointments receive straight-time pay plus a premium of one-half straight-time pay for work on designated University holidays, but they are not given compensatory time off.
Questions concerning the 2012 University Holiday Schedule may be directed to the Office of Human Resources at 7218.
