College of Business included among Princeton Review's 'Best 301'
10/12/2009 - A book published recently by The Princeton Review lists Western Carolina University’s College of Business as among the nation’s best schools at which to earn a master’s degree in business administration.

The New York-based educational services company features WCU in the 2010 edition of its guidebook, “The Best 301 Business Schools,” which is based on surveys of 19,000 students attending the schools profiled in the book.

“We are pleased to recommend Western Carolina University to readers of our book and users of our site, www. PrincetonReview.com, as one of the best institutions they could attend to earn a master’s degree in business administration,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s senior vice president of publishing. “We chose the 301 business schools in this book based on our opinions of their academic programs and offerings, as well as our review of institutional data we collect from the schools. We also strongly consider the candid opinions of students attending the schools, who rate and report on the campus experiences at their schools on our survey for the book.”

The students surveyed said WCU’s College of Business provides solid preparation in finance and general management. One student said, “I love the class sizes and the relationship created between students and teachers. I speak with several of my professors even after I’m done with their classes on a weekly-to-monthly basis.” The student added that professors are “genuinely interested in each student’s success, both in class and in business.”

The book notes that WCU offers the area’s only graduate business program that is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, but “students don’t seem to feel the lack of competition has hurt the program. On the contrary, they report positively that the program is ‘locally respected’ and benefits from ‘excellent professors’ as well as a ‘bucolic environment’ that ‘provides relief from academic pressures.’”

“We are pleased that the Princeton Review again named the College of Business at Western Carolina University as one of its best business schools,” said Ronald A. Johnson, dean of the college. “This national recognition reflects the college’s commitment to preparing ‘business ready’ graduates through rigorous, comprehensive and hands-on, real-world programs of study and to nurturing a community of service-oriented continual learners.”
