This one-day conference, held annually in the fall, is for school counselors, social workers, nurses, psychologists, attendance officers, school resource officers, and other student personnel workers. Student services personnel come together at Lake Junaluska for a day of sharing ideas that work and to network/connect with colleagues.
Coming Full Circle (COUN)
All WCU Counseling students, alumni, community/school supervisors and partners, as well as family members and area professionals are invited to join us for a four-hour professional counseling conference.
Legislator’s School (ORE)
Legislator's School for Youth Leadership Development (LSYLD) targets students in grades eight through eleven who display potential leadership qualities. LSYLD is a summer residential program, funded by the North Carolina General Assembly beginning in 1985. The Office for Rural Education (ORE) operates this program on the campus of WCU in Cullowhee.
Professional Development for Teachers (CMSE)
The Center provides three primary types of professional development programs for teachers. The specific form of professional development is determined by what is most appropriate for addressing the needs of a given group of teachers.
Reach to Teach/Teachers of Tomorrow (ORE)
This on-campus program is held annually for regional minority middle and high school students to encourage them to consider careers in education.
The Rural-Urban Exchange Program provides teacher-education candidates with an experience in working with diverse higher education and public school faculty, candidates, and students in P-8 schools. Students from both WCU and NC A&T have the opportunity to interact and work with teacher-education students from varying ethnic, racial, language, and socioeconomic groups in professional education activities on campus and in public school.
