Who is eligible to apply? Any full-time junior/senior student may apply!
What will students do? Selected students will have opportunities to apply to work 32 hours per week with a vast array of government agencies and institutions. In addition to the internship, students will participate in The Washington Experience Seminar, and complete a 3-hour Independent Study. In select cases, 9 hours of internship may be earned.
What is the cost? Students pay full-time tuition at distance education rates for the semester. In addition, students are responsible for housing, meals, and travel costs. The Honors College offers scholarships of up to $500 towards travel costs.
Program Essentials:
3 Western students (plus students from 13 other UNC campuses) are selected each semester for this competitive internship experience. Selected students will perform up to 32 hours of internship work per week.
Students receive 12-15 credit hours at Westen, including:
at least 6 hours of internship 3 hours of USI 401 The Washington Experience seminar 3 hours of Independent Study departments and students may agree to 9 hours of internship or arrange Distance Learning credit (total 15 hours).
Selected students will work with Western representative, Dr. Michelsen, and the UNC in Washington Director to establish the internship.
Pay regular full-time tuition (financial aid applies), plus additional housing, meals, and travel costs. Apply for financial aid as usual.
