WCU hosts Women's History Month events
2/22/2008 - The Women’s Center at Western Carolina University will launch its recognition of National Women’s History Month with an opening celebration from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Star Lobby of the Fine and Performing Arts Center.

Presentations of poetry and artwork by students, faculty and community members will reflect this year’s national theme of “Women’s Art: Women’s Vision.” The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

Schools and other organizations began recognizing women’s history in the 1970s with weeklong celebrations. In 1987, at the request of the National Women’s History Project, Congress expanded Women’s History Month to the entire month of March.
