Summer Camps at WCU

Participants can explore health careers or learn to play soccer at the range of Western Carolina University camps to be offered in Cullowhee during summer 2011. Click on the links below to learn more about the programs and how to register. Information about additional camps will be posted as it becomes available.

March 26-27 | Soccer Mini-Camp | Soccer skills training and games for high school girls from the classes of 2012, 2013 and 2014.  

June 19-25 | MAHEC/WCU Health Careers Summer Camp | Rising disadvantaged seventh- and eighth-grade students will interact with health care professionals and participate in activities that cover topics from nutrition to nursing. June 20 -24 | Good Old Time Camp | Rising fourth- through sixth-graders exlore art, history and culture in the mountain region each day from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at this camp sponsored by WCU's Mountain Heritage Center, the WCU Art Department and Hunter Library | 828-227-7129

June 24-26 | Women’s Basketball Individual Camp | Open to all girls in third third through 12th grade. Camp is structured to improve on-court skills with the instruction of Catamount coaches and players. | Contact Hillary Beck at 828-227-2994 or hhbeck@wcu.edu

June 27-July 1 | Rocket to Creativity | Rising second- through ninth-graders enjoy fun but challenging activities that promote creative thinking and problem solving. Participants choose activities from interest areas such as Crime Scene Investigation, The Inventors Club, Robotics, Spy and Espionage, Clown Around with Animation, and Pirates of the Caribbean. The camp costs $125, which includes lunch, and will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day with a showcase of creative projects on July 1. | Sharon Dole or Lisa Bloom at 828-227-7310

July 10-14 | Summer Symposium for Marching Arts Instruction for marching band students offered by the Western Carolina University Pride of the Mountains Marching Band in collaboration with Carolina Crown. | 828-227-2259

July 10-16 | American Dance Training Camp | Core dance classes offered in jazz, hip-hop and lyrical or contemporary styles as well as, for overnight camp participants, in modern, ballet, theatre dance or tap.

July 10-16 | Kimmel School Construction Training Program for Boys | High school students get a taste of and experience in construction management careers | 828-227-7397

July 12-16 | Catamount Adventure Camp | Rising third-, fourth- and fifth-graders experience outdoor adventures such as hiking, rock climbing, whitewater rafting and kayaking while also learning about working together as a team to accomplish goals, effective communication, and social and leadership skills. | 828-227-7397 or hensley@wcu.edu

July 11-15 | Theatre Summer Camp | Actors from Asheville-based Bright Star Children’s Theatre will lead 7- to 12-year-olds from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 13- to 17-year-olds from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. in games, improvisation, stage direction, discussions and more to igniting creativity and instilling a passion for live theater.
