WCU students inducted into English honor society
6/13/2008 - Twenty-one Western Carolina University students were recently inducted into Sigma Tau Delta, an international English honor society.
The induction ceremony was held on the WCU campus and was led by Jennifer Veilleux, the honor society’s chapter president. Elizabeth Addison, WCU English department head, addressed the students and presented certificates and pins. Bill Spencer, WCU visiting professor of English, served as faculty sponsor and bestowed honor cords.
Inductees included Zachary Dearman, Joseph Telegen, Rayan Tigani and Amber Wison of Cullowhee; Jeremy Burris of Marble; Catherine Connor of Alpharetta, Ga.; Margaret Curns of Hayesville; Stephanie Drum of Spruce Pine; Patricia Graham and Verna Humphrey of Whittier; Lindsay Godwin of Albemarle; Emily Lauro of Denver; Amanda LeGaux of Greensboro; Robert Luther of Robbinsville; Shaun Martin of Marshall; Sarah Ryckman of New Bern; Nicholas Sanford of Bryson City; Amanda Shirk of Hudson; Tianna Spear of Etowah; Wanda Summerow of Rhodhiss; and Chele Whalen of Asheville.
Sigma Tau Delta recognizes outstanding students majoring or minoring in English who have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher in their English courses and who are in the top 35 percent of their class.
