Biography:
Dr. Brown holds Professor Emeritus status at East Tennessee State University where he served as chair of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology and director of the honors-in-discipline program for many years. His interests are in criminological theory, issues in criminal justice education, and quantitative analysis.
He has served on the Executive Boards of the American Society of Criminology, the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, and the Southern Criminal Justice Association. He has published on a variety of criminological topics such as crime deterrence, family violence, statistical issues, and criminal justice education. His works have appeared in journals such as Criminology, Journal of Criminal Justice, and Social Science Quarterly.
Brown has worked with Finn-Aage Esbensen and Gilbert Geis for many years on a book examining theories of crime (Criminology: Explaining Crime and Its Context), currently in the sixth edition.
